Behind The Scenes: April Fools’ Day At Influitive

Truman Tang

Companies typically pull pranks on their customers and users on April Fools’ Day. Take Google for example, this year they created the Google Maps Pokemon challenge where they released a video promoting an augmented reality app. This app allowed iPhone and Android users to use their smartphone camera to see animated Pokemon appear on the phone’s screen. (Sadly, the video was the prank and you couldn’t actually see any Pokemon.)

We decided to take a different route this year. Rather thank pranking our customers, we pranked each other!

The set-up

We first asked each of our ‘Influitive victims’ to participate in the filming of a promotional video for our advocate marketing mobile app, Maven. In the scene, I would hand them a smartphone that they could use as a prop to talk about how they use the app.

What they didn’t know was that I was going to DROP the phone and our intention was to record their reaction to the phone falling to the ground all along.

Below are the highlights of our prank. Happy April Fools’ Day!
