Advocamp_San_FranNow that you’ve got your ticket to Advocamp 2017 (if you haven’t, register here), it’s time to start thinking about your stay in ‘The Golden City’ during the event (December 6th to 8th).

This year’s Advocamp is being held at the Hyatt Regency in the Embarcadero district, which is within walking distance of some of the San Francisco’s top attractions. (And if you don’t like walking Embarcadero train station is directly across from the hotel.)

While the hotel has many amenities (like a lounge, restaurant and a fitness center) we asked our last year’s Advocamp attendees to recommend some of their favourite places to eat, visit and explore.

San_Fran_MapMust-see sights

Golden Gate Park (26 minute bus ride)

Get closer to nature by visiting the Conservatory of Flowers (which has five galleries of rare tropical flowers and plants from around the world), taking some archery lessons, or visiting the Buffalo Paddock.

Alcatraz (30 minute walk)

Explore the buildings and grounds where some of the most notorious criminals were once held. Make sure you buy your tickets in advance as they often sell out—and don’t miss your ferry ride back at night! We can only imagine the kind of ghosts lurking around the island…

Fisherman’s Wharf (30 minute walk)

Fisherman’s Wharf is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the world—meaning you should go see it. There are plenty of unique activities to enjoy, including feeding sea lionsplaying coin operated games in an antique arcade, exploring World War II submarines, and more.

Can’t-miss Restaurants

  • Hog Island Oyster Co.
With a 4.5/5 star rating on Yelp, you’re guaranteed an amazing experience. This restaurant grows and harvests their oysters and shellfish, and are located right on the water (Tomales Bay). They’re one of the most visited restaurants in the city and, luckily for you, they’re only a 4 minute walk away from Advocamp.
  • Trestle
Looking for an amazing experience that won’t cost you an arm and a leg? Here, you can order a three-course meal for $35 (add a pasta for an extra $10). They also have a large selection of wines for under $50 a bottle, and a cozy atmosphere that feels homey.
  • Perbacco
A five minute walk is all you’ll need to get a taste of highly-rated Italian cuisine. If you’re looking for a delicious meal after the conference, this is the place to go. You can expect to find Piastra Roasted Sea Bass, Pan Seared Beef Loin and Braised Short Rib and Wild Mushroom and Rosemary Cannelloni. Mmm, our mouths are already watering…

Must-do Activities

Attend the Advocamp After Dark Party

Come wet your whistle on Thursday December 7th at 6:00pm at the Hyatt to unwind with your fellow campers at the Advocamp After Dark Party! There will be drinks, starlight, and s’mores…but that’s all we’re telling you for now. Suffice to say, you don’t want to miss this shindig.

Ride a trolley
Cable cars are an easy way to get around the city’s celebrated hills—and they’re inexpensive! Tickets are $7 and can be purchased at the cable car turnarounds (the end of each route). Enjoy hopping on and off these trolleys whenever you feel like exploring.

Visit the California Academy of Sciences Museum

If you want to learn new things (outside of Advocamp) visit the California Academy of Sciences. Fun fact: it’s the only place in the world with an aquarium, planetarium, natural history museum and a 4-story rainforest in one place! Tickets are $34.95.
